What is tramadol?

Tramadol or commonly known as Ultram is an opioid pain medicine used to relieve moderate to severe pain. It is available in the market in two forms. The consumption of the immediate release form of tramadol offers pain relief usually within an hour whereas the extended release form shows its effects at a lower rate and is majorly used to provide pain relief over some time. Tramadol 50 mg is used for both acute and chronic pain caused by different reasons including injury, surgery, illnesses such as a tumour, different forms of arthritis and neuropathy.

How does it Work?

Tramadol works by acting on the central nervous system. It affects neurotransmitters inside the brain to relieve pain. It stimulates the secretion and activity of serotonin-norepinephrine which blocks pain signals from reaching the brain. It also activates opioid receptors which work together with serotonin norepinephrine to relieve pain.
